Your Dreams aren’t Limited by the Opinions of Others

Dream Big.  Pursue with Passion.

I will start by saying that we are NOT capable of anything we set our mind to. We all have limitations.  That said, we are all capable of far more than we give ourselves credit for, and we are capable of far more than the limitations that others place on us.

The first part of my statement, that we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit for, is straight forward.  We often limit ourselves. We avoid discomfort. We, far too often, take the most safe or easiest option.   That is not always a bad thing.  There are people who are meant to live a simple live and take the safe and reliable path.  Though, I argue that most of us are called to be bold, dream big, and pursue those dreams with passion.

The second part of my opening statement, that we are capable of more than the limitations that others place upon us, is a bit more complicated.   People don’t usually knowingly limit us; people generally encourage us to dream big and will encourage us to pursue any dream.  The system of limitations runs deeper.

Society places rules on us, or more accurately, a few acceptable paths that everyone is unofficially expected to travel.  Those paths aren’t bad. They’re safe.  They give us a decent probability of success and happiness.  As a collective, those limitations work well, but they are limitations none the less and they can suffocate your dreams.

You’re dreams do not need to be limited by the expectations of others.   Realize that the norms of society are there for a reason, don’t ignore them, but if the path most traveled doesn’t look like it is heading towards your dreams, don’t take it.  Travel your path.  It won’t always be a smooth journey, but if your dreams are at the end of that path, keep traveling it.

Dream Big.  Pursue with Passion.
